Who is Prof. Dr. Birkan Taha Ozkan?

Sepicialization and Academic Career

He started his specialization training at Selçuk University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2003. During his specialization, he completed his master’s degree at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Oulu in Finland, supported with a state scholarship. He gained operational experience in Cranio Maxillofacial Surgery Hospitals at Shahid Beheshti University, Azad University and Shiraz University at Iran, and subsequently completed his specialty training.

He started his academic career as an Assistant Professor at Van Yuzuncu Yil University in 2009. There, he established the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and served as Chair of Department for many years with making singificant innovations. He received the title of Associate Professor in 2014 and was promoted to Professor in 2020. He continued his scientific researches at Toros University in Mersin and Faculty of Dentistry, Kocaeli Health and Technology University in Kocaeli.

Scientific Researches and Academic Achievements

Prof. Dr. Ozkan was awarded the Science Award of Yuzuncu Yil University. He has signed nearly 50 scientific researches that have had a broad impact in the academic world. Additionally, he published 37 scientific articles in national and international journals and made 18 scientific presentations in various congresses and seminars. He led numerous national and international seminars and conferences, participated as a speaker and session chairman.

He authored  and made his book named  Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, blending his scientific expertise with an extensive 11,000-page English translation, making a significant contribution to the scientific world. He served as the editor-in-chief of an international scientific journal for four years. His original surgical techniques in Dental, Maxillofacial, and Facial Surgery have been recognized in international literature.

Television, Media and Public Information

He contributed to public health by sharing accurate information to the public in the field of dentistry and jaw surgery on nearly 50 National Television Channels and his contributions still continue. He has published numerous articles in national and local press to raise awareness on dental health and jaw-facial aesthetics.

Clinical Practice and International Health Tourism

He established his own Private Dental Clinic in Mersin in 2014. He provides dental, jaw and facial treatment services to all national and international patients in his Clinic. The clinic has been authorized by the Ministry of Health for International Health Tourism since 2020 and provides VIP health tourism services.

Hobbies and Interests

Prof. Dr. ÖZKAN, who has also pursued a successful career in the cultural, artistic and sports fields. He is a licensed basketball and volleyball player. He is an official member of the World Backgammon Federation and has degrees in national backgammon tournaments. He is a scuba diver and is interested in subterranean wrecks. He creates artistic products through clay processing and wood carving. He also make designs and produces surgical hand instruments in his personal workshop.

Additionally, as a composer and lyricist, he has created 45 works and released his album Aşk Üstü Aşk in 2014. The video clip for the song called “Besik Kertmesi” continues to be broadcasted. TRT National public TV produced and broadcasted Life Documentary, which includes his successful life story.

Social Contributions and Social Responsibility Projects

Prof. Dr. Ozkan supportes social responsibility projects and contributed to the education of young generations by building a Technological Classroom at Mersin Cumhuriyet Primary School.
